After Care Instructions

Peel Treatment Aftercare

Pre Peel

3 days leading up to your peel stop all active products which include retinol, salicylic acid, AHA’s, enzymes and any exfoliants. The professional treatment you are about to have is much stronger then your homecare so we don’t want to over do it.

After Peel Care

After your peel treatment your skin needs to be cared for. This is because we have exfoliated the top layer off dead cells and the new cells need to be protected and nurtured being prematurely exposed.

Avoid UV/sun exposure

Exposing the new cells means that they are now more susceptible to damage and the harmful rays of the sun. Even though you should be in the habit of applying sunscreen as part of your morning routine it is even more important to be doing it at this time and reply every 2 hours when outdoors and wear a hat that has a full brim if possible.

No exfoliation

Having a peel treatment means that we have done enough exfoliation for up to 3 weeks depending on which peel we have used. Allow:

1 week for Pomegranate and Bio White Peels.

2 weeks for Oxygenated and Catalyst retinol

3 weeks for Alpha Beta and combination Peels

No Vitamin A

Some Vitamin A/Retinol’s should be avoided after your peel because some Vitamin A exfoliates the skin. These include Retinoic Acid and Retinol. These are in your Potent Retinol and Retinol Concentrate’s. What you can use though are retinyl palmitate, retinaldehyde which are in Pure Age Defiance and DP Dermaceuticals Retinal Active but of course if you skin becomes a bit sensitive when using stop until your skin is recovered and strong enough to use again.

NB: When your skin reacts to Retinol it has simply had too much too soon. It doesn’t mean that you can never use it again its just telling you to stop for a bit till the redness, itchiness and flakiness subsides then gradually start again this goes for any active products.
The best way to start on retinol is over a 4-week period use once in the first week, twice in the second, 3 in the third and 4 in the forth then you can use it most days.

You may find that you use it more frequently that other times especially in the cooler months and then slow it down in the hotter months when you are outdoors more.

A good idea when you will on holiday’s and beaching it over summer is to use the Pure Age Defiance which has a small amount of A and is very hydrating. Remember to always mix your Potent and Concentrate retinols with your hydrator.

No essential oils

Essential oils can make you skin photosensitive, best off to avoid after a peel.

If you have a response

If you have a response to your treatment or any products, please contact the salon first so I can assist in diagnosing and help treat the response and or contact the product company if needed. This is very rare but don’t try and self diagnose.

What to use on my skin after my peel

Post treatment is the time to really nurture your skin inside and out. Topically use all your homecare except Retinol, Salicylic acid and exfoliants as directed above.
Your newly exposed cells will love lots of hydration and suitable serums so by all means show them the love.

Internally, lots of water, essential fatty acid rich foods or a good omega 3 supplement like the Good Oil by Miss Vitality. EFA’s are the skins waterproof coating so we really need to look after this otherwise we loose water and dehydrate and allow nasties to get in. And lastly lots of vitamin rich foods high in antioxidants.

Derpament Aftercare

After your Dermapen treatment your skin will feel sensitive like your have a mild sunburn. This is normal and will subside within 48 hours. After day 3 you may begin to flake, just let the process take place and don’t pick!

A mild swelling can sometimes occur for those deeper treatments. For optimum results while you’re having your series of Dermapen treatments I always advise clients to use the DP Dermaceuticals range because it was made to go with the Dermapen. We have created channels into the skin so if you put any old product on it you could be allowing some real nasty stuff to go down into skin and it may not like it. Hyaluronic Acid is your best friend at this time.

The first 72 hours are crucial that you really be kind to your skin and let the process happen. The skin thinks we have caused a wound and is now in repair mode. This is the time when your fibroblast aka collagen cells start producing baby collagen. To allow the baby collagen to grow into strong adult collagen this will take place over the next 21 days. I can’t stress enough how important Sunscreen is because the sun will kill the collagen. This is also a great time to include lots of antioxidant foods and EFA’s into your diet to support this delegate growth.

To recap,

Day 1-3 you will feel sensitive. Do not try and take the redness down as this is a very important part of the wound healing cycle. Use Tri-phase cleanser, Vitamin Rich repair, Hyla-Active and your Mineral Pro SPF

Day 3-7 dryness and flacking may occur, just let it happen and hydrate the skin with your Hyla-Active gel. Day 7 you can do a light exfoliation or come into the salon for a follow up peel. Keep using your products from day 1-3.

Day 7-21 nuture the skin and let the collagen grow. You may resume your skincare with actives if you feel you skin can support it. Always use what you have been prescribed

Make-up

On the day of your treatment I will put on a foundation from DP Dermaceuticals called Cover Recover. It has great coverage and helps to really calm the skin. If you feel you don’t want to wash your face that night because its sensitive then by all means don’t, leave it on and wash in the morning it wont clog or harm the skin.

Please do not use any old foundation. I highly recommend that you use Cover Recover or our 1 Skin Foundation which has the most amazing natural coverage to it and is 98% natural.

Sunscreen

It is so important to use sunscreen all the time not just when you are having treatments done. As I previously said you will kill the collagen you have spent all that time and money on and you don’t want that to happen. Be sure to make sunscreen your number 1 product!

Cosmelan

How will I look after treatment?

Following the application of the clinical de-pigmenting mask, it will need to remain on between 8-10 hours, depending on skin type. After the required time, it may be simply removed at home with your homecare products.

For the next few days after removal, the skin will be quite red and sensitive. Around day 3 your face will start to peel and it may peel a lot for up to 7 days.

I do recommend that you have you Cosmelan on the Wednesday and by weekend you will start to peel and have the weekend at home to hibernate if you feel you want to.

The daily use and re-application of a sunscreen is non-negotiable to ensue treatment efficacy and results. The sun will bring that pigmentation right on back. Also I recommend a wide brimmed hat so the sun doesn’t sneak onto the sides of your face.

Keeping the skin well-hydrated following the removal of the Cosmelan mask is also vital to reduce unwanted dryness or flaking.

You will receive your homecare box and that comes with step by step instructions on how to use your product. In the event you lose that here it is again.

Your Cosmelan Mask will be applied in salon.

On completion of application time, remove mask with warm water.

For the first 72 hours use Hydra Milk Cleanser, Hydra Vital Factor K and O Cosmedics Mineral Pro SPF.

After your 72 hours you may begin the next post treatment protocol. This will be your protocol for the next 2 months.

AM

  • Hydra Milk Cleanser & Hydratonic
  • Cosmelan 2 cream mixed with Hydra-Vital Factor K
  • Mineral Pro SPF

PM

  • Hydra Milk Cleanser & Hydratonic
  • Anti-Stress Face Mask for 20 mins
  • Cosmelan 2 mixed with Hydra-Vital Factor K

Make-up
You can absolutely wear foundation after your Cosmelan treatment and I strongly recommend you purchase the Cover Recover from DP Dermaceuticals which will really help soothe the redness or the 1 Skin Foundation which is very hydrating and 98% natural. But my Pick is the Cover Recover.

Spray Tanning

Here are some tips for pre and post care.

The day before your tan we suggest you exfoliate and shave, that will allow your skin to shed a little overnight, so the tan has something to adhere to.

When coming to the salon do not apply moisturiser and deodorant and wear something dark and loose. Deodorants with aluminium in them will turn the tan green under your arms.

After your tan is done best off not to wear a bra if possible.

Our tans are rapid tans and what that means is that although you can rinse off in as little as 2 hours the tan keeps developing for 24 hours. So, in that 24 hour period no soap or moisturisers are to be used.

We like to tell clients not to use soap or moisturiser for 2 showers then you can go back to your normal routine.

Before hoping out of the shower make sure the tan residue hasn’t left any streaking, if so just keep rinsing till the streaking is gone.

Tip… to keep your tan even longer, a Tan Extender or Everyday Tan Moisturiser is recommended.

Waxing

Waxing Aftercare

After your waxing appointment you will be a bit sensitive and may have red spots that are bumpy. This is all totally normal and will generally go down by the next day.

It is best not to have a hot shower after or go into sauna’s.

It’s recommended not to tan directly after you wax as you may get tan in the follicle which can cause brown spots and clogging of the pores. Best to wait a day until the follicle closes up.

Your tan won’t stick as well either because there is not dead skin for it to grab onto.

If you find you are getting pimples after your waxing this is call folliculitis. Folliculitis is caused when the staph on your skin gets into the follicle and mixes with the acne bacteria, which then cause a sore pussy pimple. Things that can help with this are tea tree and salicylic acid which will help dry out the infection. Both these products are great for ingrown hairs. I stock Potent Clearing Serum which salicylic based.
